Three youth have been charged by the Whitehorse RCMP with breaking into a home in the Riverdale area Tuesday.

Sgt. John Sutherland said this morning police responded to a call from a member of the public who reported 'suspicious activity' in the area of Tutshi and Alsek Roads.

According to a press release issued by the RCMP, after receiving the call, officers 'learned that a home in the area had been broken into.

'It is believed the break-in is also related to one reported in the area the previous day.'

The three youth were arrested, charged and released. They are scheduled to appear in territorial court in December.

In an interview this morning, Sutherland said he wanted to thank the member of the public for reporting the suspicious activity.

'The RCMP would like to remind the public of the importance of remaining aware of suspicious activity in their neighbourhood and reporting it to the police immediately,' he said.

Last week, a group of about 20 Riverdale residents made their presence known in territorial court when they attended the appearances of two men charged with breaking into homes in the Riverdale area.

'It's just happening far too much in (Riverdale),' said the group's organizer T. Evans. (She did not want her full name published.)

'If it's not us, it's two houses down, then it's one house, then it's four houses .... Enough is enough,' a frustrated Evans said.

Evans said she felt the justice system is proving too easy on people who break into houses in Whitehorse.
