Whitehorse RCMP arrested three men and charged them with aggravated assault Wednesday afternoon, 14 hours after paramedics were called to help a fourth man who had been badly beaten.
According to the police, paramedics were called Tuesday evening to a home on Lambert Street, where they found a man who appeared to have been assaulted.
The paramedics took the man to Whitehorse General Hospital, where he was treated for "serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” then called police to investigate.
"The police investigation revealed that the incident was not a random act,” according to an RCMP press release. "Multiple weapons were involved but no firearms.”
Police did not disclose any details of the man's injuries, but Sgt. Don Rogers said: "We are dealing with edged weapons and blunt instruments.”
A dozen officers and three internal departments – the drug section, forensics and the major crimes unit – were involved in the "aggressive” investigation which ensued, police said today.
Shortly after midnight Wednesday, police arrested three men suspected of involvement in the attack.
They are: Kyle Anderson, 23, of Whitehorse; Michael Bland, 30, of Inuvik, N.W.T.; and Jason Crompton, 28, also of Whitehorse.
"The arrests were effected as the result of extremely good police work and done very quickly,” Rogers said of the investigation.
The men were each arrested around the same time, but in different locations, he said. No one was injured in the arrests and the RCMP's emergency response team was not required, he said.
All three men appeared before a justice of the peace this morning to apply for release.
Their case was adjourned to next Monday, and they will remain in police custody until then.
All three are charged with aggravated assault, unlawful confinement, uttering threats and forcible entry.
Anderson, who is currently on probation, was charged with the failure to comply with a court order.
"All three males are known to police,” the press release states.
Anderson has an extensive record which includes two drug convictions, while Bland and Crompton both have assault convictions on their records.

Those names have been in the paper before, and probably will continue to be. Who ever got assaulted must have been associated with them somehow. Let the thugs take care of themselves.

Now, these are the kind of thugs the new age leftist judges like to have out on our streets. And they will - with a whole new set of conditions mind you. I like PM Harper's idea of building bigger jails. But then, what good will they do when the judges keep letting them go.

Does anyone else notice that the names of the suspects have been in the news over and over again? Hmmmm? It'll be interesting to read the whole story as it comes out. "Not a random act"? Read between the lines....same crap as always? Drugs? Thuggery?
