Theft jeopardizes chef’s planned baking classes

A Whitehorse business owner is asking for the public’s help

A Whitehorse business owner is asking for the public’s help after reporting to the RCMP a number of kitchen appliances that went missing this week.

Cat McInroy manages Well Bread Culinary Centre at 6209 Sixth Ave. in the city’s downtown core.

Last Sunday, she realized that a number of pieces of equipment she had been hoping to use later this year were not where she had left them.

Among the items missing:

• eight Kitchen Aid stand mixers (all black, 4.5 quartz and still in the box with all attachments);

• one food processor; and

• one box of 36 glasses.

They were last seen at the warehouse she was storing them in, with the stand mixers buried under the glassware and processors.

McInroy was hoping to use them during cooking classes she plans to hold next month, and is upset about the unfortunate loss.

“I’m pretty sure the theft happened within the last three days,” McInroy told the Star Thursday morning.

However, it could be a week or two since they’ve been gone, since she’s been busy trying to arrange for the classes.

She’s been gathering the items over the last months as they’ve gone on sale. With everything purchased brand new, she estimates the cost of the stand mixers to be about $2,000.

Adding in the glasses and processors, it could be upwards of $2,100.

The Pilsner glasses amount to about three dozen, and are also still in the box as well.

“I think there were 36 of them: who needs that many?” McInroy asked.

The small business owner also feared what this means for her work, posting on Facebook that someone may try to sell them at a high price come the holiday season.

“Really breaks my heart as I can’t afford to replace them until into next year,” she wrote, with her two posts receiving more than 200 shares.

“I can’t run a lot of the baking classes I wanted to,” she said, adding that may also limit the foods she can make.

“Even kneading bread, we’ll have to do it by hand – which might be a bit of a deterrent if somebody has a shoulder problem.”

Also a trained pastry chef, McInroy said she remains hopeful that it’s never too late to right a wrong.

“It absolutely sucks because I’m doing this on my own time,” she sighed, but encouraged the public to keep their eyes peeled online, especially on used marketplace pages.

Anyone with information can call the RCMP at 667-5555 and claim file #2018-1407733, or contact directly at 633-2665.

Hey MO...I beg to differ, if caught much would in fact happen.
Start at fictional arrest shall I?
Assume a call to M is made...a human picks it up and asks what the emergency is if dialed 911, Or RCMP what can we do for you if you call the 5555 either way a process has started that soon will involve many folks.
Regular arrest for a ass pain, couple members.
High risk take down, I say minimum 6.
Uni bomber north of 60, many more.

Peaceful arrest? Now comes lawyers numbers unknown call it one for this purpose.
Resisting and being a known POS during said fictional arrest?
Might be EMS crews, hospital crews, maybe pilots and air traffic crews, fuel truck tankers...if these fictional arrests happen frequently?
Now AME’s join the army growing for “public safety” as those medivac ships need maintenance as do the ambulances, cop cars and trucks, court vans, turnstile bushing replacement at said courthouse etc...

Gee MO I really could “bloviate” a spell painting the illustration of just what does happen if “they” the generic secular nefarious misunderstoods get in fact caught.
Diffent rabbit holes get traveled during all that “nothing really” happening time of percolated Justice depending on where on the wheel of ID politics one is lawyer up onto...many many more folks get relevant now...see?

So MO yes you are right in the suggested post, little happens to the source of crime via criminal responsibility as those terms are diametric to each other.
However...all those folks you see each day in the drive throughs, in traffic etc? In summary near all of us are supporting the machine of the state, which in turn “manages” public safety a freaking army of many state actors.
All of which participants in the lunacy of our actual economy, crime and mollycoddling.

When one factors in that the average mass of humans can sort it out themselves...differences they may have with others. A few idiots truly do ruin it for our entire society as we must all deal with their bulls**t and fund, staff the machine.
Every cog, in every gear of our justice is turned out to be literal enigma machine....few outside of Bletchley Park can make sense of.

Not to get all Batman like, and as much as I dig sarcasm...crime and how we handle it...really pisses me off.
Where is Dirty Harry, Dexter?

Shame. But if they get caught nothing will happen. Guess why?

Murder, break and enters, car break ins, vehicle thefts.. drugs, bombs, something every day now.. if they are caught, with any luck they get back out on the streets in 20 minutes without having to make any kind of restitution.. In this theft, I think the items are probably on their way to Alberta or BC.. I hope the RCMP is keeping an eye open on Kajiji for them.

This is Whitehorse now..I think everyone should have camera's.. I have 3 NEST cams on my place, back, front, and inside...and motion floodlights..cost me about $15 a month.
I wanted to take some of these classes, I sure hope they are able to get this off the ground despite the loss.

Was this an inside job. The thefts and nuisance behaviour around town is terrible.

Sorry Cat that you had to experience this.
