A preliminary autopsy on the remains of Angel Carlick leaves more questions than answers for those who continue to mourn the death of the 19-year-old girl.

'The autopsy results are inconclusive and the coroner is unable to determine the cause of death,' reads a statement released by Whitehorse RCMP this morning.

Sharon Hanley, the coroner who oversaw the autopsy, told the Star today that unless the RCMP request further testing, her work is done.

'I can't explain the test results much more than to say the cause of death was undetermined,' she said.

On Nov. 9, a Whitehorse resident walking in a forested area north of the Pilot Mountain residential subdivision discovered human remains.

The RCMP's Major Crime Unit, Forensic Identification and Police Dog Services were called to the scene to recover the remains, which were eventually identified as Carlick's.

The community has since been mourning her death, following a trying six-month investigation after Carlick went missing last May.

The scene where her remains were discovered was cordoned off as RCMP gathered evidence, although that search has been completed.

The area is no longer being looked at, though the RCMP are continuing with the investigation. They ask anyone who saw suspicious activity in the crime scene area between May and November 2007 to contact them directly at 667-5555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS)
