New residential properties in Takhini North will be closer to getting on the market now work begins on clearing the lots.
"After a substantial planning and redevelopment, our engineering department and project crews are set to begin work on the most substantial phase of the Takhini North development project,” Mayor Bev Buckway said in a statement last Thursday.
"This project, when completed, will provide for a substantial number of new residential properties to help meet the needs of our growing population.”
Being close to downtown, on the transit system and near Yukon College and the Canada Games Centre, it's the type of residential development that helps the city be more sustainable, she added.
Work begun last weekend will see the clearing and grubbing of the new lots. When crews have finished, the space will accommodate 30 single-family lots, 12 lots for duplexes and one multi-family lot.
"So far, Takhini North lot sales have been very popular, and our office continues to receive inquiries,” said land development officer Pat Ross.
"We look forward to making these new lots available to Whitehorse residents this fall.”
Seventy-one applicants put their names in for 12 new lots released earlier this month. Prices on those properties ranged from $92,190 (including the GST) for a521-square-metre property at 42 Rhine Way to $178,185 (including the GST) for a 978-square-metre duplex property at 31/33 Rhine Way.
