A fire that engulfed a Gruberville cabin last week is being described as suspicious by Whitehorse RCMP.

Police received a call last Wednesday morning, reporting a fire at a home on Meadow Lane, north of city limits.

Const. Dean Hoogland said today the blaze spread quickly.

By the time police and the local fire department arrived on the scene, the cabin was engulfed.

No one was home at the dwelling.

Hoogland said police are investigating the fire and talking to witnesses.

The cause is still under investigation, though it is being treated as suspicious at this time, he said.

Police have no suspects.

Yukon fire marshal Dennis Berry confirmed to the Star that a fire occurred at that location and that there were no injuries.

The fire marshal’s office is investigating further.

“We investigate every fire to determine cause and area of origin,” Berry said.
