Yukon United Way was selling tickets at Canadian Tire on Friday when the organization’s cash box containing about $500 was stolen.
At about 4 p.m., a man grabbed the cash box from the United Way table and ran out of the store into a waiting vehicle – a 1994 Ford Ranger which had been reported as stolen on Oct. 12 to Dawson City RCMP.
Police located the vehicle turning onto Sumanik Drive, where the driver and passenger hastily exited the vehicle and fled on foot into the greenbelt.
Multiple police officers searched the area, but the suspects were not found.
In a statement today, RCMP describe the male who grabbed the cash box as a slender Caucasian 20-year-old with black hair.
The female driver appears to be the same age and race, with a black ponytail and wearing an orange tank top.
Police are investigating the theft.
Anyone with information is asked to contact them at 667-5555.

Photograph of the so-called 'man' who stole the charity money from the volunteers. It's in this cbc article: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/whitehorse-united-way-cash-box-stolen-1.3289327

Does it seem like these might be the same people that were involved in the Stratford Motel story?

Our thieves and robbers are getting bolder. To run into a store in broad daylight? That is bold. They obviously didn't think the cops would catch them.. and they didn't... The money is gone by now.. thin with dark hair is not much of a description.
There is never a "first' time for thieves..there is only the 'first' time you get caught. I'm seeing a long happy fruitful career in shoplifting, theft, burglary, and break and enter for this enterprising duo. In the unlikely event they ever got caught, our courts..would they even get a day?

The events occurred Friday afternoon as described, but it wasn't the United Way, it was Habitat for Humanity Yukon. Unfortunately, the thieves who grabbed the cash box off the sales table right in front of our volunteer stole over $500 in ticket sales, money that was earmarked to help complete the duplex we are building in Whistle Bend for two deserving families. We are saddened that the generous donations of Yukoners who purchased tickets was stolen by these young people. We hope any Yukoners who may know something about the identity of these thieves will report their information to the RCMP.
