The RCMP have charged a Whitehorse pair with drug possession after breaking up a suspected drug deal in the Tags Food and Gas parking lot early Saturday morning.

At about 3:00 that morning, an on-duty officer observed what appeared to be a drug transaction taking place in front of the Fourth Avenue convenience store and gas bar, police reported this morning.

One of the men involved in the deal ran when he saw the officers approaching him, and jumped into a waiting vehicle.

Police were able to stop the car and detained three people. A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up 10 grams of what is believed to be cocaine, and about 100 tablets of what is thought to be Ecstasy, worth between $4,000 and $5,000.

All three people were ultimately released, with two facing charges.

A 32-year-old man is charged with possession and possession for the purpose of trafficking, while a 25-year-old woman is charged with simple possession.

Both are scheduled to make their first court appearance on June 23.

Nice Job RCMP, good to see you crackin down on these low life druggies.

Ive always wondered why people deal in this town, We have a population of 30 thousand, EVERYONE knows each others business. You will be caught.

Keep that crap out of the Yukon, a large majority of yukoners have zero tolerance for drugs or crime and we will report you to the RCMP or the favoured s.c.a.n division.
