Three people were announced today as the 2021 inductees to the Order of Yukon.

The Yukoners are: Dr. David Storey, David Mossop and Peter Menzies.

The announcement was made by Commissioner Angélique Bernard, in her capacity as chancellor of the Order of Yukon.

The names were chosen among the nominations submitted to the advisory council.

“The 2021 inductees demonstrated excellence, achievement and outstanding contributions to the social, cultural or economic well-being of the Yukon and its residents,” said a statement introducing them.

Storey, a Whitehorse surgeon for decades before his retirement, is being honoured for his work in the medical field, his mentoring and his training of many surgeons over the years.

Mossop, a retired Yukon government biologist, will be inducted for his work in the area of conservation and environment in the Yukon, which led to the recovery of the peregrine falcon in the territory.

Menzies is entering the Order for his ongoing and substantial contributions in numerous areas such as education, the arts and community-building in Dawson City and the Yukon.

“I join all Yukoners in congratulating Peter, David and Dr. Storey on being inducted to the Order of Yukon,” Bernard said.

“I sincerely thank them for their outstanding contributions to the development of our territory. They have truly made a difference.

“Thank you to the advisory council members for their work in selecting the inductees.”

Chief Justice Suzanne Duncan of the Yukon Supreme Court, who chairs the council, also congratulated “these three well-deserving inductees for 2021.

“Their remarkable contributions reflect the characteristics of humanity, generosity of spirit, kindness, self-sufficiency, commitment, enthusiasm, guidance, and respect,” Duncan said.

“The Yukon is a better place because of their exceptional accomplishments.”

Bernard’s office will create a video recognizing this year’s inductees. It will be posted on the office’s Facebook page on Jan. 1.

Yukon Party Leader Currie Dixon also lauded the trio this moring.

“Each of the three inductees – Peter Menzies, David Mossop, and Dr. David Storey – have had their own impact on the territory that will never be forgotten,” Dixon said.

“All are emblematic of what it means to be a Yukoner. They have made important contributions to our community that will help the next generation of Yukoners.

“Thank you to the advisory council for their work in selecting three very worthy recipients.”

Congratulations to all three of these very deserving gentlemen. Each has left their mark in their service to the Yukon and it's people. This recognition was very much earned by each of them.

I can not think of three more worthy men here in the Yukon to receive this award. I know all three of these gentlemen. Their contributions have been outstanding. I can honestly say I have personal praise for David, having had three surgeries under his skill-full hands - thanks.
