The pilot year of Sundog Veggies was very successful, producing thousands of pounds of fresh vegetables that were donated to community members, Elders and sold in local markets and stores.

In the “pandemonium” of 2020, Sundog Retreat had to pivot fast. Owners Andrew and Heather Finton brought their experience in community collaboration, farming and mentorship and created Sundog Veggies. Food security is crucial for Yukoners, and this was an opportunity to grow food for the community and build a project that met the sudden need for employment, especially among young people.

The pilot year of Sundog Veggies was very successful, producing thousands of pounds of fresh vegetables that were donated to community members, Elders and sold in local markets and stores. 2021 will see many partners coming together to improve on last year’s agricultural training program. There are too many people to thank here, but watch for a detailed list coming to the Whitehorse Star soon! This summer, look for Sundog Veggies at local markets and vendors such as the Fireweed Market and Wykes’ Independent Grocer.

Sundog Retreat remains open for a staycation or a comfortable place for Yukoners to self-isolate. Get out and enjoy nature in the comfortable cabins, wide-open views of the Northern Lights and amazing access to trails for walking, snowshoeing or skiing. The team looks forward to welcoming you!
