Two Yukon men face drugs and weapons charges after they were arrested late last month near Carmacks.

At 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 27, Carmacks RCMP received a report of a truck stuck on the North Klondike Highway approximately 50 kilometres north of the village.

“There were two men inside of the truck and, due to the treacherous road conditions, unable to be reached by commercial towing,” police said Tuesday afternoon.

Carmacks officers attended the scene.

“On arrival, they observed two men in the truck who were acting suspiciously,” police said. “One of the two men gave a fake name; however, his true identity was confirmed to be Tyler Rear, who is wanted on outstanding warrants from Dawson City in relation to a home invasion.”

Rear was arrested.

After a search, police found drug paraphernalia and a magazine belonging to a pistol.

A search of the vehicle was also conducted. The officers found:

• an amount of powder cocaine;

• an amount of marijuana;

• drug flaps;

• handwritten score sheets;

• a restricted Glock 17 air pistol;

• a knife; and

• a baseball bat.

Rear was transported to the Whitehorse Correctional Centre. He was scheduled to appear in court this past Wednesday.

The second occupant of the vehicle, Tommy Joe, was later arrested on an undertaking and subsequently released with a court appearance on Jan. 12.

Under the Criminal Code, both men have been charged with:

• possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;

• unauthorized possession of a firearm;

• possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized;

• possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle; and

• possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking (under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act).

Rear has also been charged with obstruction under the Criminal Code.

Joe faces a Criminal Code charge of failing to comply.

Carmacks RCMP are asking anyone who may have information regarding this or similar occurrences to contact them at 867-863-2677.

The Canadian legal system is a total farce. Criminals are treated much better than the victims. Bring back capital punishment!!
