The stream advisory for the Nordenskiold River and tributaries of the Yukon River in the Carmacks area has ended, the Yukon government said Thursday.

The announcement notes that after flows in the Nordenskiold peaked on May 11, they have slowly dropped.

The government issued a stream advisory early last week for both the Nordenskiold and the Klondike rivers.

The advisory for the Klondike was lifted last Friday.

Cancellation of the advisory for Nordenskiold notes cooler spring temperatures with light precipitation so far has extended the snowmelt period over a longer time span.

Water levels are expected to continue dropping over the long weekend, says the advisory.

It also notes high water can destabilize riverbanks. The public must continue to exercise caution in and around rivers and streams at this time of year, says the announcement.

This year’s snowpack hit record highs across the Yukon.

Yukon Energy has taken steps to draw down the water levels in the Southern Lakes to make room for the spring runoff.

Unlike streams and rivers that experience high water in the spring, the high water in the Southern Lakes typically occurs in July and August, as the glacial melt occurs.
