Site will open at month’s end
The Yukon government’s safe consumption house will not open until the end of September.

The Yukon government’s safe consumption house will not open until the end of September.
The project is one of the key components in the Confidence and Supply Agreement the minority Yukon Liberal government struck with the Yukon NDP in late April to allow it to govern until early 2023.
Last Friday, YG announced the site would not open on the past Tuesday, as had been planned.
The opening was pushed back to accommodate some staff training, and to finalize the ongoing renovations of the government building on Sixth Avenue at Cook Street.
Both the Liberals and the NDP agreed to the postponement, but neither indicated when the site would open for business.
On Tuesday morning, a government spokesperson told the Star “the objective is to have the site ready and the staff fully trained prior to the opening. The new planned opening date is targeted for the end of September.”
When contacted on the issue, the Yukon Party, which had been critical of the decision on Monday, had no further comment.

John had a great idea on the earlier note regarding this issue, he wrote: "Gee I have an idea - why not move the Safe House to the HCI. That way they won't have as far to go - just downstairs."
I think this is a great idea - I mean there is no point in destroying two neighbourhoods. You could refurbish the convention centre for the druggies. After all we know money is no object to be concerned about as the Liberals just love to spend, spend, spend. Just look at fancy socks in Ottawa today wanting add another 17 billion each year for the next 5 !!!!

Hey YG, here's an idea - instead of pandering to a tiny portion of society with a multi million dollar facility and ongoing O&M, how about you focus on getting doctors in the Yukon, you know, for the citizens who are working and paying the bills? There are over 2000 people on the waiting list for a family doctor, and that's just the people who bother to sign up. Now the walk in clinic is closed, and Emerg services are being cut for non emergent care needs. But yeah, this free drug clinic is clearly the most crucial issue in Yukon health care.
