Shots were fired from a semi-automatic firearm and a 23-year-old Whitehorse man was stabbed early this morning outside a downtown bar.

Whitehorse RCMP were called to Main Street, outside Lizards Lounge, at around 2:50 a.m., they said early this afternoon.

At the scene, they found a man had been stabbed about four times, Sgt. Ross Milward said.

Three of the injuries were to his chest and abdomen area, while the fourth was to his arm.

While he was taken to Whitehorse General Hospital with minor injuries, police continued investigating and learned the victim had likely been in a fight with two other men, Milward said.

They also learned four shots were fired into the air from the gun.

No one was injured from the gunshots. However, a stray bullet found its way to a rental car parked on Main Street, said Milward.

The man was treated and released from hospital, said hospital spokeswoman Val Pike.

Police are appealing to the public for help in the investigation.

The victim's name is not being released.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
