A man considered to be at a moderate to high risk to again commit sexual offences against children was released today from an Ontario prison.

The 38-year-old sex offender plans to relocate to Whitehorse.

The RCMP's 'M' Division released a public notification this morning about Louis Phillipe Myre.

Described as being six feet tall and weighing 242 lbs. with brown eyes and black hair, Myre has been convicted of sexual offences against children as well as a number of frauds.

He remains under statutory release and is under the supervision order of Correctional Services Canada until 2009.

As part a 10-year order, under section 161 of the Criminal Code, which prohibits him from having contact with people under the age of 14, Myre must also follow conditions, including:

Not attending a public park or swimming area where people under 14 are or could be expected to be. He is also prohibited from daycares, school grounds, playgrounds and community centres; and

Not seek, obtain or continue any employment or volunteer role that involves being in a position of trust or authority to people under 14.

Among his conditions imposed by the National Parole Board, Myre must:

Follow psychological counselling;

Follow treatment plans or counselling, such as the sex offender management program;

Not attend places where children are known to congregate; and

Have no contact with children under 14.

In 2003, Myre was convicted of sexual interference and two counts of possession of child pornography.

He was also convicted on a number of theft and fraud charges and breaches of court orders.

'As Myre poses a moderate to high risk of reoffending, the RCMP has decided to release a public notification to raise community awareness and enhance community safety,' the release states.

Anyone who notices Myre in possible violation of his conditions is asked to contact his or her RCMP detachment immediately.

The Whitehorse detachment can be reached at 667-5555.
