FATAL FIRE – A blaze in this travel trailer has claimed a life.
A fire inside a small travel trailer in the McIntyre subdivision has taken a life.
A fire inside a small travel trailer in the McIntyre subdivision has taken a life.
Whitehorse RCMP and local firefighters were called to the blaze on Murphy Road at 5:42 this morning.
Whitehorse fire chief Clive Sparks said that by the time emergency crews, including five firefighters in a pumper and rescue truck along with police, arrived on the scene, there was already a significant amount of fire coming from the trailer.
While the blaze was contained to the trailer, there is also a residence on the property which had a number of people inside it. Investigators located the body of one person inside the trailer, and it's not believed there were any others inside during or just before the fire started, said RCMP Sgt. Glenn Ramsay.
It's too early in the investigation to say whether the body was that of a male or female.
"Police are conducting an investigation to identify the body and notify the deceased's family,” police said in a statement.
"Investigators are in the early stages of the investigation and will not speculate on what caused the fire.”
It is being treated as suspicious until proven otherwise.
While RCMP, the Whitehorse Fire Department, the Yukon Fire Marshal's Office and the coroner continue their investigation, RCMP victim assistance volunteers are assisting community members affected by the tragedy, police said.
Anyone with information on the blaze who haven't spoken with police yet are asked to call the RCMP at 667-5555 or, to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Happy New Year. It sounds again like one
of "those partys" that go on in trailer
parks and in That neighbourhood. Booze!
