Seventeen people are facing charges of trafficking drugs after the RCMP wrapped up a two-month undercover investigation.

Their work resulted 'in a blow to the Yukon's illicit drug trade,' Sgt. Roger Lockwood told reporters at a press conference Monday afternoon.

It's unknown how many drugs were seized.

The arrests were made over the past weekend.

Lockwood offered few details of the arrests, stating he couldn't speculate on the events which led to the arrests.

He also did not have information on the amount of drugs seized in the arrests, except to say they were of a 'street level' quantity, a smaller amount sold on the streets.

'M' division spokeswoman Brigitte Parker said street level drugs are drugs used for personal consumption.

Police would not provide that information, it was explained, because they varied from community to community and were based on availability and transaction. Details of the amount will only be available through the court process as it unfolds.

Pelly Crossing resident Jamie Darrell Brown, 38, is the only person arrested who is charged with trafficking cocaine. Again, police did not provide details on the amount of cocaine seized.

Others are all facing at least one charge of trafficking marijuana, with Haines Junction resident Elizabeth Lois Smith, 26, and Pelly Crossing resident Jimmy Darryl Hager, 28, both still at large and facing two counts of the charge.

Others charged with one count of trafficking marijuana include:

  • Floyd Donnessy, 38, of Watson Lake;

  • Donald James Molloy, 32, of Watson Lake, who's still at large;

  • Patrick John Molloy, 32, of Watson Lake;

  • Bobby Magun, 28, of Watson Lake;

  • Dustin Patrick Dolan, 21, of Ross River;

  • Lonnie Jeffrey, 52, of Ross River;

  • Jamie Darrell Brown of Pelly Crossing;

  • Rory McGivern, 41, of Faro, who's still at large;

- Patricia Anne Lindsay, 39, of Teslin, who's still at large;

  • Sean Bernard Sidney, 34, of Carcross;

  • Bernice Dorothy Richard, 44, of Carcross;

  • Paul Young, 40, of Dawson;

  • Lisa Ann Marie Smith, 31, of Carmacks;

  • Alice Boland, 45, of Carmacks; and

  • Phillip Boland, 43, of Carmacks.

Donald and Patrick Molloy are brothers, while the Bolands are a couple, though all were arrested for separate incidents.

Asked whether the arrests are related to anti-drug rallies staged in Whitehorse over the summer, Lockwood said the undercover operation had involved a lot of 'behind the scene' work prior to it beginning.

He would not discuss the number of officers involved nor the type of operation, noting it's an ongoing matter.

The undercover operation was staged in all rural communities with the exception of Old Crow. No charges were laid in Beaver Creek.
