The Yukon’s COVID-19 outbreak continues to show some stable numbers.
The Yukon’s COVID-19 outbreak continues to show some stable numbers.
“Dr. Brendan Hanley is reporting seven new cases of COVID-19 from noon Wednesday, to noon Thursday. The number of active cases is currently at 54,” said a government statement released late Thursday afternoon.
“The number of new cases per day has remained stable at approximately seven for more than a week, with one exception.
“Total number of confirmed Yukon cases since the outbreak began in early June is 561 cases, including out of territory residents diagnosed in the Yukon and probable cases.
“For the new cases, two are in Whitehorse, and five in rural Yukon in unidentified locations.”
Since June 1, 501 people have recovered and six people have died, five of whom were unvaccinated and one was partially vaccinated.
A total of eight people have died from COVID-19 since November 2020.
According to the Kwanlin Dün First Nation, there are currently six active KDFN citizen cases. The First Nation has had 74 cases since the outbreak started.
Hanley, the Yukon’s chief medical officer of health, reported six new cases from noon Tuesday to noon Wednesday.
Three cases are in Whitehorse and three in rural Yukon.
The total number of confirmed Yukon cases since March 22, 2020 is 616.
“As we move from pandemic mode to endemic mode, we are gradually shifting the Yukon’s approach to that of managing a vaccine-preventable disease,” Hanley said Wednesday afternoon.
“Our goal is now shifting from one of overall containment, to one that is focused on reducing the impacts of COVID-19 by limiting its spread and avoiding as much severe illness and death as we can.
“Do the right thing, Yukoners, and get vaccinated.”
Immunizers continue to provide clinics in rural communities beginning this week. Appointments are being booked online.
They will be providing both first and second doses of Pfizer for youth born in 2009 and up to the age of 17 and Moderna for people 18 and over.
While appointments are recommended, walk-ins will be welcome.

So do you really think these guys like Dr. Fauci, Dr. Hotez (Dean of Tropical Medicine at Baylor University) etc. would come onto the news and pretty much say that there should be a vaccine mandate in certain parts of US. Do you know more? Do you think they're are political? Do you think they would be promoting a drug that wasn’t safe? What is your level of expertise? But I guess you know more..right!
I laugh when I hear that liberal slam on CBC..well I can direct you to CNN, MSNC, CTV or as the conservative call 'main stream media' but the conservatives don’t like that because it’s all facts and it doesn’t portray the alternative facts in a positive light..is that eloquent enough for you?

Who's ending up in the hospitals? on Aug 10, 2021 at 10:40 am
The unvaccinated and partially vaccinated, and same with ICUs (and deaths). So whether or not vaccinated people can get and spread the virus, they're not the ones filling up hospital beds. Remember 'way back when, the goal was to not overwhelm our medical facilities and workers? It didn't have to be this way, and I guess in the Yukon, we'll see what this fall and winter brings.

Do you believe Reuters? on Aug 10, 2021 at 10:33 am
Amazing, how a set of facts can be read and processed, then shared and distributed with wildly different conclusions. Not understanding? Wilful misrepresentation? I dunno.. . But Reuters is a trusted source for facts, so here's their take on Iceland https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.reuters.com/article/factcheck-iceland-vaccines-idUSL1N2P918F&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwiLu_ag_KbyAhVZZc0KHRkMC-8QFnoECAYQAQ&usg=AOvVaw2WMKXdKCJLsFJhghK4EBSf

@Jeff don't watch CNN then, the daily death rates and what category they fall in (some 99% all not vaccinated) will terrify you or it should if your a realist.
It's the same story in pretty well every country seeing case infections rise to previous high totals of the spring.
Do the research, admit your ignorance and then go get vaxed.

Will there be any liability assigned to the builders who encroached on the high water setback construction line allowing for sewage seepage into the public water supply? Do they have insurance?

@ MikeC... wow you are a google expert, I'm impressed. You're missing the entire point so I'll try and help you. The vaccine has been approved for emergency use. It has shown to reduce the seriousness of some of the covid variants at this time. What hasn't been determined is the possible long term effects of this mixture nor the necessity of use in healthy population.
As for the theory that unvaccinated people are breeding grounds for variants, one only has to look at the overuse of antibiotics and the reduced effectiveness long term to dispel the value of natural immunity vs short cuts. Either way, time will tell but I don't think it's appropriate to stand on a soap box and disrespect individual choices when there are so many unknowns...unless of course you google liberal sponsored CBC. If the FDA approves the " vaccines" in the near future, as is anticipated, it will provide another level of choice for those who chose not to take the risk you so eloquently support.

Obviously the majority of new cases are from people that have been vaxed. We know this because if they weren't it would have been in bold, and in the title, and repeated, and there would be a red flashing light beside it.

As Covid cases explode to record highs in 75% vaccinated Iceland - with half those hospitalized vaxxed - it's Govt has conceded vaccinating has not led to herd immunity.
“It has become clear that vaccinated people can easily contract it as well as spread it to others,” the country’s Chief Epidemiologist Þórólfur Guðnason says.

@ Joe
Yeah so let’s talk about spreading Covid misinfo..firstly, why isn’t it a vaccine..how many people are dying from Covid after the shot versus the unvaccinated..gimme your statistic on that..definition of a Moderna vaccine - works by injecting a small piece of the mRNA from the coronavirus that codes the virus spike protein..mRNA vaccine spurs the body to produce the spike protein internally. That, in turn, triggers an immune response. FACT #1
Secondly, your talking semantics about FDA or Health Canada approval..it’s a piece of paper that FDA process says that the benefits of the drug outweigh the known and potential risks of the population. I think that is pretty a given but hey like I said we can back to masks and social distancing if you want. Do you really think this isn’t providing a benefit to the vaccinated..99% of the people in hospitals right now in the states are unvaccinated people..not fake news but I’m sure you anti vans morons will says so and if you think this only hits the unhealthy population then your about as a dumb as you sound. Anybody can get it..eating salmon and blueberries and jogging 5 miles a day isn’t going to protect you
Lastly, go read an article from a doctor in Alabama, about as conservative as a place as can be and read the article she wrote about Covid and some of her patients that were dying from Covid.
Dr. Brytney Cobia MD is her name..google her name and tell me this all bs

My Opinion on Aug 8, 2021 at 1:17 pm
@BSc
What are you worried about? You are double Vaccinated right? So if it works, which you believe it does, then what is the problem? We have the highest double vaccinated anywhere. So back off on the putting a nice yellow star on all the unvaccinated. This is still a free country, if you are afraid, then stay home.

@ bsc... please read up on COVID and stop spreading misinformation. First off the vaccine ( which by the way is not a vaccine) is not FDA or Health Canada approved, even though medical experts have stated it is safe. Your choice to take that risk is yours, I choose to wait until proper approvals are in place.
Secondly, vaccinated people can transmit COVID and arguably are more likely to do so as they feel bulletproof and ignore safety protocols. I continue to get tested regularly and follow stringent safety protocols and live a healthy lifestyle.
Third, if you can’t see the political opportunistic Legault and Trudeau, taking advantage of the fact majority of Canadians support vaccination for political gain, well I can’t help you there.
Lastly, if we initiate vaccine proof required based on the premise it’s to protect others - then we need to mandate proof of non-smoking and second hand smoke, non-alcohol to ensure alcohol caused deaths are reduced and on and on. I for one respect my forefathers efforts to ensure we have choices and freedoms even though they may not always be the best choices.

Justin had better call the election soon before the Delta varient flares up and all the conveniently timed relaxed protocols will need to be put back into place again.

When, not if, the Delta variant starts burning through Canada, it will end up here. When it does end up in Yukon, our government will be forced into re-implementing the restrictions they’ve recently removed.
And when this happens, you can then turn to your unvaccinated fellows and say thanks bud! Thanks for nothing.

bonanzajoe and North of 60
Hey I can cherry pick from news articles too..except for every 1 you apparently fact check (btw America Media is a faith based editorial source) I can produce 10 fact checked sources so gimme a break! Like what else would they say..all you anti vaccers, anti maskers and anti social distancers (aka conservatives) just want to bitch and complain at anything the government, scientists and doctors do..
I mean seriously if wasn’t for YouTube and Facebook polio, small pox and measles would have never been eradicated. You just want your soapbox just to complain..fine let’s go back to masks again on a full time basis...even David Frum a staunch conservative under George Bush called you guys out. Go listen to him if you have the guts

bonanzajoe is correct. The so-called 'vaccine' does not provide immunity, all it does is reduce the symptoms so you're less likely to have serious complications and die. It's a GMO therapeutic not a vaccine to provide immunity.

lift restrictions, outbreak, lockdown, repeat. How much longer will it go on for? Put and end to all restrictions because if they keep doing this cycle it’ll be 20 years of this.

I just read an article in the American media, which stated that those that didn't take the vaccination and recovered from covid, have better immunity than those who took the vaccination. Because the unvaccinated have normal immunity. So, there is no cause for concern for those who have covid and recover. And there is no reason for them to take the vaccine after they recover.
