Second body discovered
Whitehorse RCMP were called Sunday to recover another body from the water, the second time in less than a week.
Whitehorse RCMP were called Sunday to recover another body from the water, the second time in less than a week.
Sgt. Ross Milward said this morning it appears the body of an adult male taken from the east side of Lake Laberge, at the south end, had been in the water for several months.
Police are hoping to use fingerprints or dental records to identify the individual.
A tourist paddling a canoe discovered the body at 2:30 p.m. in a remote area directly across from Horse Creek.
The canoeist stopped at a nearby lodge and the police were called.
Meanwhile, Yukon coroner Sharon Hanley has confirmed that drowning was the cause of death for 27-year-old Curtis Garret Woods of Whitehorse.
Woods' body was recovered from the Yukon River last Tuesday, in the area long First Avenue across from the Riverview Hotel.
Police had put out a request a week earlier asking the public for assistance to locate Woods, as he had not been seen since leaving the Blue Moon Saloon on April 30.
Hanley said there was no evidence of any injuries or anything else to indicate foul play.
'It is consistent with drowning,' she said of the conclusion from the autopsy.
Hanley said a toxicology examination is being conducted to determine if there was any alcohol or other substance in the man's blood stream at the time of death.
Those results, she said, won't be known for a couple of weeks.
