The Dawson City RCMP and the Klondike Search and Rescue team are looking for a Dawson man who hasn't been seen since Friday.
The 57-year-old man was reported missing Monday, but police did not begin the search until yesterday, according to one local resident.
He last seen riding his red Honda all-terrain vehicle near his home on Bonanza Creek Road, according to a press release from the Dawson detachment.
Searchers found the vehicle in Bonanza Creek - at Kilometre 5 of the Bonanza Creek Road - on Wednesday afternoon.
"The creeks and rivers in the area are very swollen - bridges are washed out and so on - I think they're dealing with some Mother Nature issues," RCMP spokesman Sgt. Mark Groves said today.
"On the weekend, the creek was swollen and was definitely across the road," Dan Davidson, the Star's Dawson correspondent, reported today.
"During the summer, you could probably walk across that creek, but last weekend it was forceful - it could have swept a person away," he said.
Police are not releasing the man's name nor a description of him until his family has been notified of his disappearance.
A ground search is still underway, according to officers at the Dawson detachment, with assistance from the RCMP's Twin Otter plane. A local helicopter owner, a friend of the missing man, is also doing searches of the area on his own undertaking.
