The search of Teslin Lake for a 39-year-old Calgary man is continuing today.
It began yesterday after the boat he and his wife were in capsized on the lake late Tuesday night.
The couple was returning to Teslin in the 16-foot motorboat around 10 p.m. when it became swamped amid strong winds and waves.
His wife, 24, was able to swim to shore with the only lifejacket on board. She then hiked for about two hours before she found a cabin where she could contact the Teslin RCMP.
He was last seen in the water.
Teslin RCMP along with members from the Whitehorse, Carcross and Watson Lake detachments as well as search and rescue personnel from Teslin and Whitehorse have been searching the lake and area with the search starting within a half hour of being notified of the situation.
A helicopter was used yesterday to search the shore line and lake with a ground search also being conducted. RCMP boats continue to be on the water searching for the man or any sign of the boat or equipment.
The man is described as being of Russian heritage. He is just over six feet tall, weighing about 183 lbs. He has brown hair and green eyes and was last seen wearing black jeans and a green shirt. His name and his wife's name are not being released at this time.
The boat was a fibreglass model - blue on top, silver on the bottom - with a 70 hp Johnson outboard motor.
"While it is believed the boat has sunk there may be flotsam from the boat which, if found, could provide information on the last known location of the couple and their boat and possible direction of wind and currents,” notes an RCMP statement.
Anyone finding material on the lake or shore that could be linked is asked to contact the Teslin RCMP as soon as possible.
