Ross River RCMP, working with other police teams, supporting agencies and the community, are continuing their efforts to locate 40-year-old Ramona Peter.

She was reported missing on April 28, after having been last seen outside the Ross River General Store on April 21. A disappearance is unusual behaviour for Peter, police added.

In addition to officers from Ross River RCMP, the Yukon RCMP Major Crimes Unit had officers in the community to support the investigation and follow up on information provided by witnesses.

RCMP Air Services are also actively engaged, and the Yukon RCMP plane was used in a search conducted last Thursday.

Yukon RCMP Police Dog Service (PDS) and Yukon Search and Rescue (YSAR) are involved in the investigation and are present in Ross River.

They will continue to work with community partners engaged in physical searches in and around the community.

A charter helicopter assisted YSAR in searching the area on Friday.

“Police continue to appreciate active engagement from the community in this investigation,” police said.

“Anyone who participates in a search is encouraged to continue to share plans and findings with the RCMP. This is to ensure that investigators have a full understanding of search activity, as well as to prevent searchers from engaging in dangerous or repeated actions.

The Family Information Liaison Unit provides support for the families and loved ones of missing Indigenous women, girls and two-spirited individuals.

Territorial victim services staff provide services and help for victims dealing with a range of different crimes, regardless of whether the victim has reported the crime, a charge has been laid, or there has been a conviction.

Staff members with the Family Information Liaison Unit and victim services are available to provide support to family and community members impacted by Peter’s disappearance and the associated investigation, police noted.
