A single-vehicle rollover Saturday on the Alaska Highway has claimed the life of 31-year-old Mary Anne Scurvey of Whitehorse.
Whitehorse RCMP were called to the rollover at about 2:30 p.m. after a highways sanding crew came across the scene about 15 kilometres north of Whitehorse off the Alaska Highway. The crew remained on the scene, assisting the police.
In a statement this morning, the RCMP said the truck – a 1998 black Ford F150 pickup – had been travelling north on the highway when Scurvey lost control. The truck rolled down an embankment numerous times before coming to a stop.
The woman, who had been driving and is not believed to have been wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the truck. Attempts by police to resuscitate her using CPR until an ambulance arrived, failed.
Both passengers – a 19-year-old woman and 27-year-old man, also both from Whitehorse – were taken to Whitehorse General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Road conditions at the time were slippery with blowing snow, and it's also believed alcohol was a factor in the tragedy, Sgt. Don Rogers said.
Police are reminding drivers to wear their seatbelts and not drink and drive.
An investigation is continuing.

Another life gone because of refusing to put their seatbelt on. How many more people killed will it take for people to actually start using them. It takes 2 seconds, and yes it will probably save your life.
