A 54-year-old Pelly Crossing woman involved in a single-vehicle rollover Sunday that killed the driver has been medevaced to Vancouver.
Whitehorse General spokeswoman Val Pike said this morning the woman was flown to Vancouver early Monday afternoon in critical but stable condition.
Neither the name of the 47-year-old Pelly man killed in the accident nor the woman are being released at this time at the request of family, Pelly Crossing RCMP Cpl. Karen Olito said this morning.
The accident, which occurred at 3:50 p.m. is still being investigated, though it's believed both alcohol and speed were factors in the accident, Olito said.
The two Pelly Crossing residents were travelling south on their way home from Dawson City when the accident happened on the stretch of the Klondike Highway just past Ethel Lake, at the bottom of the hill at Crooked Creek.
Olito said it appears the 1996 Dodge Ram pickup being driven by the deceased hit the guard rail as they approached the bridge, which caused the vehicle to roll.
It does not appear as though seatbelts were being worn, she said.
The female passenger was out of the vehicle and walking around when passing motorists stopped to provide assistance.
Medical services personnel transported the woman to Mayo after arriving on the scene, and she was subsequently flown to Whitehorse.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
