DAMAGE DONE – Excessive rainfall over the weekend not only washed out areas of the Kusawa Lake Road, but also caused some damage to the Kusawa Lake Campground. The road re-opened this morning. The Kusawa Lake Road is open to the Kusawa Lake Campground, Highways and Public Works spokeswoman Kendra Black said today.

Black said the road re-opened this morning after crews were able to make repairs to several washouts that occurred Monday following the weekend's downpour of above-average rainfall.

Motorists, however, should be aware there are still graders working on the road along with other heavy equipment, she said.

The road is open to the front part of the campground, which includes the Kusawa Lake boat launch, but not to the back section of the campground beyond the bridge, Black said.

The issue is not with the bridge, but with the roadway inside that area of the campground, she said.

Environment Yukon spokeswoman Nancy Campbell said early this afternoon the campground remains closed until staff have had an opportunity to assess its status.
