A 58-year-old American man died last Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision outside of Watson Lake.

At 2:30 p.m., Rex Tarr, a tourist from Illinois, lost control of his motorcycle while rounding a corner, RCMP said.

He slid into the westbound lane and crashed into an oncoming SUV.

The roads were slippery and wet when the two vehicles collided 50 kilometers east of Kechika, according to the RCMP.

'It was a cold, wet day,' Cpl. Shaun Pike of the Watson Lake detachment said in an interview this morning.

'It was still raining at the time that police arrived at the scene.'

The two people in the SUV were also visiting the area, from Quebec. They suffered no major injuries.

Their names are not being released by the RCMP.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident and no charges have been laid.

Police are continuing to investigate the collision.
