One man remains in Whitehorse General Hospital today recovering from smoke inhalation after a fire caused about $40,000 in damage to a Riverdale home on Saturday.
Whitehorse firefighters were called to a house on Alsek Road at around 4:34 p.m. Saturday, Whitehorse Fire Chief Clive Sparks said this morning.
Three people were outside the house when the 11 firefighters arrived on the scene. Another man had to be pulled out of the house after he was found in the basement where the fire had started.
'He was unconscious,' said Sparks, noting the man suffered smoke inhalation.
Still waiting to speak to the home's owner, Sparks said the cause of the blaze is unknown, though it doesn't appear to be suspicious.
The blaze caused about $40,000 worth of damage to the home, most of it smoke damage. There was a small amount of fire damage in the basement.
The fire department was back in service at 8 p.m.
Pat Bleackley, the hospital's acting spokeswoman, said the man who remains in hospital is stable and is steadily improving.
Another male was admitted and treated for burns to his back, while a male and female were treated and released.
No names were released.
