Sidhu Trucking is a step closer to expanding its Collins Lane property after the Feb. 25 city council meeting.

Second and third readings passed to rezone a 1.1-hectare piece of Commissioner's land at 163 Collins Lane from Greenbelt (PG) to Service Industrial (IS) as part of Sidhu's proposal to expand its maintenance yard.

Sidhu has approval to buy the land from the Yukon government, provided the city grants the rezoning and subdivision.

Council's vote on the rezoning came with little discussion after no issues were raised during a public hearing on the matter. The only written submission didn't oppose the plan.

"Allowing a modest expansion of the lot in a westward direction does not contravene the intent of the Official Community Plan as a significant greenbelt area will remain,” states a summary staff report given to council on the matter.

"The proposed use of the enlarged property is an extension and continuation of an existing industrial use, which is compatible with the zoning bylaw.”

With the rezoning now in place, Sidhu must get subdivision approval before the lot expansion can go ahead.
