Retail sales fell in December: statistics
The preliminary estimate (seasonally unadjusted) for retail sales in the Yukon for December 2018 was $69.5 million, Statistics Canada reported Feb. 22.

That’s a decrease of $5.4 million, or 7.2 per cent, compared to December 2017.
The December 2018 retail sales figure rose by $1.9 million, or 2.8 per cent, compared to November 2018.
Nationally, preliminary retail sales (seasonally unadjusted) fell 0.6 per cent in December 2018 compared to a year earlier, and increased 2.2 per cent compared to November 2018.
On a preliminary annual basis, retail sales (seasonally unadjusted) in the Yukon totalled $834.6 million. This represents an increase of $35.1 million, or 4.4 per cent, compared to 2017 ($799.5 million).
Canada’s year-to-date retail sales climbed 2.7 per cent over this time period.

@Groucho - Wait a minute. You live in the Yukon, paying the lowest taxes in the country and you are complaining about the 'tax burden'? hahaha. The definition of Yukon entitlement. Try living somewhere else in Canada for a while. You literally don't know how good you have it up here.

Trying to do more with less meant I buy next to nothing locally (aside from 'fresh' food) when I can get it online cheaper and shipped to my door. Plus you don't have to deal with the parking abomination downtown.

Has the belt-tightening already begun? I know we were quite frugal over the Christmas season in anticipation of the coming year's increasing cost of living. Too bad fixed living doesn't extend to our tax burden too.
