Restrictions aren’t going anywhere fast

The Yukon government and public health officials aren’t wavering from their plan to slowly and cautiously loosen health restrictions.

By Tim Giilck on February 10, 2022

The Yukon government and public health officials aren’t wavering from their plan to slowly and cautiously loosen health restrictions.

That was the consensus from this morning’s weekly COVID-19 briefing.

Economic Development Minister Ranj Pillai and Dr. Catherine Elliott, the acting chief medical officer of health, hosted the event.

Elliott said there are currently 99 active cases in the Yukon identified by the government.

However, with a testing positivity rate of 35 per cent, that’s clear evidence of significant community spread of the virus, particularly the Omicron variant.

Elliott said that means there are many more unidentified cases in the territory.

She said there are some preliminary signs the current Omicron wave has reached its peak, or is close to it, but there’s much more work to be done.

“We’re only halfway there,” she said. “It looks like we might have reached the peak, but it’s not certain.”

With small populations such as the Yukon’s, there’s more danger of serious fluctuations happening quickly, Pillai and Elliott said.

That’s why the government is sticking to its cautious week-by-week plan to loosen restrictions until the beginning of March, she said.

Elliott acknowledged things are moving faster in other jurisdictions in Canada, and around the world, but the Yukon wouldn’t be following suit.

The Omicron outbreak hit the territory later than most other places, she said, and still has a ways to go until it subsides.

“We’ve lagged behind other jurisdictions,” Elliott said. “We’re well aware other jurisdictions are moving faster, but it’s not a good idea to ease restrictions now.”

Pillai said, “You’re not going to see us do that.”

He said the government will be talking a “calculated process” to loosening restrictions.

Elliott and Pillai also noted the rush to end restrictions elsewhere, including in Denmark, has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases.

The restrictions and mandates have done way more damage to our health, society, and economy than the covid virus ever did. It's obvious to all people willing to use critical thinking. And it should be obvious more than ever to those CMOs and politicians. There's an agenda here, and it's not about health. It's the WEF agenda, and the Great Reset that will clean out your bank account to pay for Canada's lockdown-mega-debt. In a little while, you'll indeed own nothing, and THEY will be very happy.

Jerome Adams, former Surgeon General, commenting on the backlash to the hypocrisy of 70,000 maskless fans enjoying the Superbowl when 2 year olds are masked at daycare:
"This is NOT a defense of hypocrisy. It’s saying you can’t argue against hypocrisy with more hypocrisy.
The Super Bowl had a near 90% + vax rate (anyone not vaxxed had a recent negative test). You want to get rid of masks ASAP? Then promote / ensure vaccinations at that level."

Yukoners, with a 90% vaccination rate, were not allowed to hold funerals or weddings.
Switzerland, with 68% vaccination rate, dropping mandates. They didn't have to drop child masking because they never did it in the first place.

Which other countries have banned unvaccinated children from planes, trains or ships besides Canada or is that honour uniquely ours?

Worth noting that the Yukon Territory is one of the only remaining areas of this country where mandates have not yet been lifted. It's also one of the only areas of where public health officials have been allowed to lie, by refusing to distinguish Covid hospitalizations as incidental - ie; the virus was picked up in hospital - and where co-morbidities particularly age of all "Covid deaths" remain a state secret. CDC admitted last week that 80 percent of "Covid deaths" included a minimum of four co-morbidities including age beyond life expectancy.
This situation is a farce.

Has anybody out there spoken to lawyers about launching a class action lawsuit against these thugs? The damage they've done to private business is disgusting. There is clear and overt liability and it needs to be pursued with ministers, health officials, and public representatives all held personally financially accountable for the damage they've done. People have lost businesses, livelihoods, and homes and those losses continue to mount for as long as this misconduct persists. Deeply disappointing that this sort of action has become necessary.

@Observer,
You have an interesting perspective on democracy. The trucker rebellion did have an influence on the federal goverment's direction, the extent of which remains to be seen. As for the members of the convoy believing they made a difference is no less accurate than a political party and how they interpret their mandate. They believe what they want to believe.

Days after Pfizer admitted a safety audit could wipe billions off their stock market valuation, Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel dumped hundreds of millions of dollars in stock and deleted his Twitter account.
Maybe we should immediately dump the plan to vaccinate the children? What does the CEO of Moderna know that is hidden from us by our government?

"Typical misinformation regarding Danish COVID-numbers
There exists a lot of misinformation regarding Danish COVID-19 numbers. On this page, we are answering some of the most typical ones.

Misinformation: Extremely many people are hospitalized because of COVID-19 in Denmark.
Answer: This is not correct.

As of week 5, 2022, 2,391 COVID-19 positive persons had been hospitalized compared with 296,630 PCR confirmed COVID-19 cases. The proportion of hospitalized cases of COVID-19 positive persons have decreased since September 2021. The proportion of COVID-19 positive persons hospitalized because of COVID-19 has decreased since July 2021 relative to persons hospitalized with COVID-19. The proportion of persons hospitalized because of COVID-19 by week 5 is now approximately 60% of COVID-19 positive persons in the hospital.

Note: Hospitalized because of COVID-19 means that a person is admitted to the hospital because of COVID-19. Hospitalized with COVID-19 means that a person is hospitalized and has a positive PCR-test. It does not mean that the person is in the hospital because of COVID-19."

Idiotic. What's the hospitalisation rate from Omicron? Death rate? Zero. And, zero.
It's past time these public health officials were put back in their box and the Canadian constitution and all the freedoms and human rights that it guarantees were reinstalled. This continuing oppression is an outrage.

Your species is currently passing through the hot mess of Liberalism wherein hedonistic impulses rule. You will be forever changed as a people through this current devolutionary trend. You are in a descent into the madness that precedes the end of cultures. Chaos, anarchy, nepotism, cronyism, identitarian hierarchies, declines in cognitive flexibility, diminishing IQs, the decline in the ability for young people to solve problems, rampant narcissism, the increased conflict, pandemic level drug use/addiction… And on and on…

Anyways - We will be leaving your planet on March 1st - We will park our UFO at shipyards park if anyone wants a ride off this planet. Our first stop is the country of Nonmandatia, on the planet Freedoma. Leave your shit behind, and yes, that means your Liberalism too… It is universally outlawed because it creates hatred, division, conflict, violence, and the eventual collapse of societies… It is a violently implosive ideology of the long emergency through which their objective is the securing of power, all power even.

I cannot say that it has been a pleasant visit though. On our first contact one of your junior high school students was stoned, spray painted graffiti on our UFO, and told us to f#%$ off because we were disrespecting their rights as free and autonomous individuals to do as they please.

Our research into societal collapse suggests that human civilization is long past its best before date. Good luck, make good choices, and win awards!

The media really downplays what a glass-half-empty gal Dr. Catherine Elliott is. She covers it with a veneer of positivity and they fall for that. But according to her the wave is halfway, maybe a little more than halfway over, but that doesn't mean it won't get worse in the future.

In fact, she's really looking forward, and I really mean that, to the fall, when flu and covid and rsv virus will be prevalent. And luckily we'll have the new isolation units for that. Which came as a surprise to me. Isolation is not just for Covid anymore.

A highlight for me was when a reporter asked her to give more information about the higher rates of rsv virus she mentioned. There's two cases. And probably because they're testing more.

A reporter and Elliot shared a smirk about Denmark because that country lifted all their restrictions, and the infection rate is going up, obviously. It's not that simple, and Denmark didn't do it thoughtlessly. It wouldn't hurt us to be able to discuss these different approaches. I don't love that my day-to-day life is governed by a person who insists that 'I want to see everybody-everybody vaccinated" as a benchmark for lifting restrictions. 100 percent vaccinated. Yeah, that's realistic.

One of the metrics she's following for judging the severity of the wave is absenteeism in workplaces. Just a couple of weeks ago, she was saying we could "technically" get fined for sniffling in public. So that makes sense. People staying home with minor ailments, if any, and that counts as severity.

"Nobody ever said they would block infection, transmission or viral load"

Actually, they did. Why else the delight in firing unvaccinated health care workers with natural immunity who sacrificed throughout 2020 while others got to stay at home? And now Quebec allows covid+ healthcare workers to work. It was repeatedly used as justification to ban people from various settings based on their vaccine status and it is still going on.

“Vaccinated people do not carry the virus — they don’t get sick,” Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the CDC, told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow on Tuesday. That’s “not just in the clinical trials, but it’s also in real-world data.”

You are doing it wrong. You have taken this too far for too long.

You are suppose to say:
Case counts are declining. The science has changed. The vaccine works so well against the omicron variant. Children have widespread access to vaccines. One way masking works. It's a mild variant, case counts aren't important. Natural immunity will be a factor. Time to shift to an individual responsibility. Time to shift to mental health, especially for our children. And so on.

So you have potentially been served by the unvaccinated this entire time while they have been relegated to being seen as second class citizens and not allowed to attend those businesses other than for work.

The biggest news story today should be the Liberals completely undercutting the labour market!

The Government of Yukon is also streamlining the Yukon Nominee Program to support Yukon businesses in urgent need of workers. The Yukon Nominee Program is the Yukon’s main economic immigration program. Previously, employers looking to hire a foreign worker through the program were required to demonstrate the need to hire outside of Canada by attempting to recruit locally and nationally, advertising the position for four weeks, and continuing to search locally during the application process. These requirements will be temporarily waived to allow Yukon employers to act quickly to address their staffing needs. This change is effective immediately and will remain in effect until June 30, 2022.

This is insane! These are actions that keep wages low! This is why you need a government job to be able to afford to live here! If people are wondering if this government values you and your family this is the answer.
