Revised - Last Saturday evening’s fibre cable cut in northern British Columbia led to more disruptions to telecommunications services in the Yukon and northern B.C. on Monday.
Repairs, however, were completed Tuesday.
Early Monday morning, Northwestel Inc. said that afternoon, it became necessary to disrupt services again for approximately 90 minutes.
Cable television, long-distance phone, Internet and cellular services were affected. Some telecommunications services in other territories were also impacted.
In the Yukon, those services were lost at about 7 p.m. Saturday and weren’t restored until after 2 a.m. Sunday.
Early Sunday morning, Northwestel technicians identified the damage caused by a landslide in northern British Columbia and conducted a temporary repair, restoring all services.
The affected region has had considerable rain, leading to unstable ground and making permanent repairs complex.
Northwestel crews continued repair work at 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Every effort will be made to complete the repairs without any further disruption to service, the company said.
“We apologize to our customers for these very unfortunate disruptions. Our focus is on completing permanent and safe repairs to the fibre line.”

Over all Northwestel has provided good communication services. Nature rules in the North! This time it was just a break! Whole sections will be wiped out in the future! Earth changing quakes are coming. Be prepared!
