HIGH AND DRY – Crews had the George Black ferry pretty well out of the water by about 12:10 this afternoon, as seen above, and were preparing to begin repairs.

DAWSON CITY – The George Black ferry in Dawson City will remain out of operation for at least two days while repairs are completed, the Yukon government said late Tuesday night.

“Unfortunately, this means that travellers may need to make alternative arrangements or consider extending their stay in Dawson for the time being,” the post noted.

A shuttle is available for foot traffic across the Yukon River between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.

“We thank everyone for their patience as we work as quickly as we can to return the ferry to normal operation,” the government said.

Depending on the complexity of the repairs, the vessel could be returned to the water Thursday, but more likely Friday.

It’s the second time this summer travellers with vehicles have been stranded in Dawson.

Last month, a federal inspector ordered operations closed down after it was discovered obligatory papers had not been properly posted aboard.

Wilf, quit spouting off about something you know absolutely nothing about. The ferry hit one of the countless unseen and waterlogged, submerged trees floating down the river due to the high water and bent a prop / shaft causing severe vibrations, it happens every few years during high water season and is just part of doing business on the Yukon river. As a matter of fact spare props and balanced shafts are kept handy in Dawson for just for this occurrence, if not the ferry would have been out of service for weeks. Last time I looked no political party was responsible for unseen debris floating submerged down the Yukon river.

Oh my goodness, was Wilf flown in to manage the repair technicians and overall project?

Great job liberals and NDP. Not out once but twice. Where is the inspection process to make sure this does not take place?
