Human remains found Tuesday afternoon in the Yukon River in the Burma Road area off the North Klondike Highway have been confirmed as those of Jeremy Scurvey.

Chief coroner Kirsten Macdonald confirmed that in a statement released early this afternoon.

The short press release said two people found the remains. A positive identification was made Wednesday, with Scurvey’s family then notified.

Scurvey was reported missing last October.

In a statement at that time, Whitehorse RCMP said the 25-year-old had last been seen in the Yukon River at the end of Lambert and Front streets.

An extensive search – which included the use of a helicopter, additional RCMP officers and the work of Yukon Search and Rescue personnel – followed, but Scurvey could not be located at the time.
