Canadian Red Cross officials will be asking Yukoners what vision they have for the organization.

An input session has been set for 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the Westmark Whitehorse Hotel, with a variety of community groups and first nations confirmed to attend.

"It's a bit of a two-way conversation," Clara Reinhardt, the organization's Yukon community consultation co-ordinator, said this morning.

Along with asking locals what they envision for the organization, there will also be discussion on what the Red Cross is doing in the Yukon.

While the Red Cross has a lengthy history in the territory, Reinhardt said many aren't aware of its activities. Among the programs listed in the Northern B.C./Yukon region:

  • the health equipment loan program;

  • prevention programs focused on abuse and violence as well as injury and drowning;

  • disaster response; and

  • promotion of humanitarian values.

Reinhardt said the timing was a "bit of a glitch", falling on the Friday of the annual Sourdough Rendezvous winter festival. Most government offices will be closed tomorrow.

The event was booked months ago from B.C. before officials there realized it's a regional holiday.

With that, the Red Cross is welcoming any submissions by e-mail. Those comments can be sent to clara.reinhardt@redcross.ca
