RCMP seeking teen's whereabouts
Police in Whitehorse are asking for the public's help in finding a 16-year-old Heather Daye, who arrived in the territory at the end of June with her 26-year-old boyfriend, Chris MacNeil.
Police in Whitehorse are asking for the public's help in finding a 16-year-old Heather Daye, who arrived in the territory at the end of June with her 26-year-old boyfriend, Chris MacNeil.
The pair met working at a fish plant in New Brunswick.
"It's more of a case for a request to locate,” Whitehorse RCMP Sgt. Don Rogers said today. "She's been in contact sporadically with her mother ... due to her age, we want to speak to her in person.
"(The boyfriend) is not facing any investigation or charges ... and providing she's not under any duress, it's none of our business after that.”
Daye is a caucasian, has shoulder-length, straight brown hair, blue eyes, weighs 52 kilograms (115 lbs.), stands 165 cm (5' 5”) and has a diamond stud nose piercing.
She may be in the company of MacNeil, who is 180 cm (5' 11”), weighs 64 kilograms (140 lbs.), is slender and has short, wavy brown hair.
MacNeil is driving a black 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier with a New Brunswick licence plate number GJC 577.
Heather Daye's mother, Darlene, told the Star this morning the last time she spoke with her daughter was on July 20.
"She had called, she was crying, scared,” said Darlene.
While Heather got a job at Walmart, she failed to turn up for work or collect her recent paycheque following the July 20th conversation with her mother.

Perhaps the term pedophile was not the most perfect choice of words but I think the point was made loud and clear – what romantic interest should an adult have with a teenager? None.

It has already been said but I will say it again… if there is a concern that this girl be located for confirmation she is okay then her photo needs to be posted to give the community a strong visual of what we should be looking out for.
In this town there are all sorts creepy adult males hanging around with naïve female teenagers; sadly seeing one more mismatched pair just doesn't stand out in the eyes of local residents so this girl's parents and/or the RCMP need to post a picture. If the last exchange between daughter and mother was of the daughter crying claiming she is scared then perhaps everyone should step it up a notch to locate her.
"cc” makes a good point - children can have consensual sex years before they can buy cigarettes. Why? Cigarettes can cause cancer; consensual sex can cause life threatening and transferable STDs – what's the huge difference?

I agree with you Mark that it would be ridiculous to 'LET' your 16 year old daughter date a 26 year old man. However, at 16 the parents don't have any choice in the matter. She's in the eyes of the law, able to make her own decisions.
Her mother, I'm certain, not only did not ALLOW her daughter to date this man, but also did not ALLOW her to travel across the country with him.
Her hands were and are tied.

Mark as a parent of four grown daughters I know first hand how hard it is to "try' and see that our girls date the right guys, but it is not as easy as it sounds with the laws. You can have sex at 14 but you cant buy a pack of smokes til your 18....go figure with that ....what "man" would want to date a 16yr old is what you should be asking...he is the pediphile!!! as far as I am concerned!!! and I know that other mothers are more than likely saying the same thing!!!
We NEED to change the laws then us mothers would have a bit more control over jerks preying on our young vunerable girls.

To Mark : How do you stop someone from seeing another person, do you escort them every place they go, monitor school breaks, phone conversations & bathroom breaks? I think not, if a person wants to date someone, they will - regardless of what the parents want.

How does the RCMP expect the public to help when they don't give out a picture. Many of us may have seen them but can't remember the description. Half the girls in this Territory where nose studs. Crazy way to do police work these days.
