RCMP seek watches' owner
Whitehorse RCMP are trying to find the owner of three gold watches which were dropped off at the detachment at the end of September.
Whitehorse RCMP are trying to find the owner of three gold watches which were dropped off at the detachment at the end of September.
"They're not in pristine condition," Sgt. Mark Groves said this morning.
"They look like they have priceless sentimental value."
One of the watches has an engraving on the back which reads "To Ethel, From Uncle ...March 29, 1923."
Police are hoping the owner of the watches will be able to identify them by providing the publicly-undisclosed name from the engraved watch.
The other two have no significant markings, Groves said.
"We gave it some time after they were dropped off," he said, in the hopes someone would claim them or some clue to their origin would come from another investigation.
Call the RCMP at (867) 667-5555 to claim the watches.

Francias Pillman - should we have the police policing snow piles? That is a great use of their time.
Ask the City (because this IS a City issue) to invest in more plows, loaders and overtime. I wonder if you noticed them clearing the intersection of 2nd and 4th at 1 AM last week.
When people need help the RCMP is there to help; not removing snow.

My thoughts exactly Wow! The RCMP are trying to make sure that some sentimental items are given back to their owner. If Anthony lost something that was of sentimental value to him I'm sure he wouldn't be saying this.

Lack of snow removal... The RCMP's responsibility??? HAHA I don't think so!
Sure it is a safety issue but that is more like a bylaw and city problem don't you think?
Francias what do you expect the RCMP to do? Stand out on the streets in this weather and direct the city snow removal crews?
You probably have never needed "real help" from the RCMP cause you would know that when you need "real help" they are there. Your "real problems" must include worrying about how your car will get over that snow bank and into your driveway.
Maybe you haven't been reading the news carefully, the RCMP just took over $100,000 of drug money off the streets. Does that satisfy you?? Is that a worthy press release??
I agree with the the comments above. This isn't an RCMP press release. If you lost something of great value to you Im sure you would be thankful that the Police thought to put this in the paper so by word of mouth or just reading the story you found something that is very important.
Francias I think you should join Anthony in watching the Simpsons everynight instead of giving your Minor, petty, insignificant, irrelevant, trivial 2 cents everyweek. Find something better to do.

All tha data points that Whitehorse has become more crime ridden since they changed the offsales time from 2am to 12am. RCMP should start enforcing longer offsale times to slow the crime rate.

I think it's time for you to get your head out of your ass Anthony. I guess you failed to notice Sgt. Mark Groves on national TV last night talking about Whitehorse's Drug Crime Unit. You also failed to notice just about every other article in the Star and Yukon News concerning Silverfox, the death near Marsh Lake, Mr. Edzerza's OPINION on police dealing with alcoholics, the Airport Chalet being robbed, taser conduct and testing, and many more. This isn't an RCMP press release, it's someone losing something of value to them and the best way to try and find the owner. You should stick with watching The Simpsons rather than trying to keep up with the news.

Thank you for the above comment. I wasn't going to comment by you read my mind. This passes for news? How about the RCMP worry about lack of snow removal from all the streets in Whitehorse. Even school zones. And no, its not a city issue, its a SAFETY issue. Something that affects everyone. Anytime there is a PROPERTY/MATERIAL GOODS issue, M-DIVISON is all over it. When people who need real help are given second priority.

It is pretty sad when it is this kind of tripe that passes for a RCMP press release. I don't think we need a culture of fear but having some idea of what the hell is going on in our neighbourhoods would be a refreshing change. As Chief Wiggum in The Simpson's say:
"That's some might fine police work there Lou."
