An unidentified body was found on Grey Mountain on Saturday evening, Whitehorse RCMP say.
A passing snowmobiler found a man's body off of one of the trails on the mountain and phoned police.
Where the body was found and how high the man was on the mountain has not been released by police, who are looking for help from the community to identify the man.
He is described as being about 60 years old, 1.8 metres tall (five-feet-nine-inches) and 72 kilograms (160 pounds).
He has grey hair and a stubble beard, with a darker mustache.
He could be of either aboriginal or Caucasian descent, police reports say.
When the body was found, it was clad in a blue shirt and blue jeans.
A short distance away, police found a GAP hooded sweatshirt and a grey sweater with a zipper.
It is not known if the clothing belonged to the deceased, according to Sgt. John Sutherland.
However, shedding clothing can sometimes be a sign of hypothermia, he said.
'It is not unknown for hypothermia victims, as one of the last things they do, to remove articles of clothing,' he told the Star this morning.
No cause of death has been released. Police cannot say whether foul play was involved at this point.
The matter is under investigation by both police and the coroner's office.
Anyone with information regarding the man's identity is asked to contact RCMP at 667-5555.
