After a woman was sexually assaulted on a trail in Riverdale, Whitehorse RCMP are seeking the public's help in finding their suspect.
Police were notified at 4:23 a.m. Sunday of the assault.
In a statement issued to the local media on Monday afternoon, the RCMP said a 37-year-old woman was walking on a trail in the greenbelt between Lewes Boulevard and Tatchun Street when she was approached by a Caucasian man.
They spoke briefly. He then suddenly struck her, forcing her to the ground, where he sexually assaulted her.
No weapons were used in the attack and the two weren't known to each other, Sgt. Frank Campbell said Monday.
After the man fled, the woman went to a home on Alsek Road and immediately contacted police. She was taken to Whitehorse General Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries and released.
The suspect is described as being in his early 20s, Caucasian, dressed in black, with blond hair. He was wearing a black toque at the time. He also had crack cocaine with him.
Anyone with information on the assault or who may have noticed any suspicious people or activity in the area is asked to contact the RCMP at 667-5555 or, to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
