A Whitehorse woman was cleaned up at the hospital and sent on her way early Saturday morning after she was stabbed three times in the chest.
A Whitehorse woman was cleaned up at the hospital and sent on her way early Saturday morning after she was stabbed three times in the chest.
The lacerations to the 34-year-old woman's chest were all superficial and didn't need stitches, only cleaning, a Whitehorse General Hospital spokeswoman said today.
The stabbed woman had called 911 at 1:54 a.m. Saturday from a neighbour's home after she was attacked with a knife during a domestic dispute, Sgt. John Sutherland, Whitehorse RCMP spokesman, said today .
Christopher Lee Collens, 36, was later arrested in the parking lot of a Klondike Road four-plex. He wasn't initially around when officers arrived, Sutherland said.
Alcohol was involved.
Collens has been charged with aggravated assault and was released from court later that morning on $500-bail. He's to have no contact with the complainant and isn't allowed to go within 100 metres of the Riverdale residence where she was stabbed.
Meanwhile, police are asserting that a pair of steel-toed boots can be a weapon.
A 48-year-old man in a Takhini Trailer Court home called police Sunday afternoon to report he'd been kicked by a man wearing a pair of boots with the metal-reinforced toes. He wasn't seriously hurt, Sutherland said.
A 36-year-old man was arrested at the scene and was held overnight for court. He's facing charges of assault with a weapon, assault and mischief.
Also in the Takhini Trailer Court, a woman arrived home at about 10 p.m. to discover the lights on and two males inside. The pair fled and the 41-year-old homeowner discovered her property had been ransacked. She'd left the residence at 6:30 p.m.
Some personal effects were stolen, and while some have been recovered, others are still missing, Sutherland said.
Along with police dog Justice and his handler, several police officers cordoned off the area and managed to herd the two males and a female into custody.
A 19-year-old woman, 19-year-old man and 17-year-old male youth were held in custody and are all facing charges of break, enter and theft along with mischief.
An Alaskan man was finally able to get on his way home Sunday after thieves made off with his pickup while he was checking out of his hotel.
At 7:30 a.m., the man had left his grey 2003 Dodge Dakota running to warm up in the parking lot while he handed in his Airport Chalet keys, but when he went back outside, the truck was gone.
The Whitehorse RCMP notified their counterparts in Carcross and Teslin to keep an eye out for the truck with Alaska plates.
A Teslin RCMP officer was filling up the gas tank on his marked police cruiser when he watched the grey pickup pull in to a gas station in his community at about 11 a.m.
He arrested the pair in the truck and sent them back to Whitehorse for court. The truck was undamaged.
A 26-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man are both facing charges of theft over $5,000. The Alaskan got his truck back.
An Ontario resident is missing a backpack and clothes after a truck canopy window was smashed. The rented truck was parked outside the 202 Motor Inn when the theft was reported shortly after noon Friday.
The green U.S. Army backpack had contained winter gear. The man was involved in manoeuvres with the Rangers.
Reported about an hour later on Friday, an Arc'teryx 60-litre backpack and contents, valued at $1,500 was taken from under an unlocked truck canopy. That truck had been parked outside the High Country Inn between 1 p.m. Thursday and 1:42 p.m. Friday when it was reported.
Early Saturday afternoon, a person in Porter Creek reported that a Chevrolet Cavalier has driving erratically. Armed with a licence plate number, the RCMP determined it was a Cavalier and located the car downtown at the Westmark Whitehorse hotel, where the Watson Lake woman who'd rented it was staying.
She told police her 25-year-old son had taken the car, said Sutherland. The son reported he'd lost control on a patch of ice and hit a dumpster, resulting in the substantial damage to the car.
He was issued a 24-hour roadside suspension and a ticket for driving without due care and attention.
Another young man, this one from Whitehorse, is also facing charges in a vehicle-related incident Saturday
A witness called police at 7:40 p.m. reporting a young male trying the doors on a parked vehicle and looking in the back of the pickup. When officers arrived at the Pioneer Inn parking lot, they found a teenager in the driver's seat. The driver's side window had been smashed and a shovel was lying on the ground beside the truck, Sutherland said.
An 18-year-old male was arrested for attempted theft of the truck, mischief and breach of bail conditions.
