Staff-Sgt. Kent Langley explained in an interview Monday they have not made any arrests related to the incident, confirming the same on Tuesday.
Approximately 20 officers responded to a call received at around 2:30 p.m. from a resident of Whistle Bend who reported seeing an armed individual trying to break into a neighbour’s home.
Langley said police secured the area and prevented vehicles and foot traffic from entering.
They had contemplated putting out a public alert, but they had reliable information the accused had left the area, he said.
Had they felt a danger to the public still existed, Langley said, they certainly would have put out a public alert.
They did issue a detailed press release a couple of hours after the incident, with a photo of the suspect.
Concerns about the lack of a public alert were raised in the legislature last Thursday, with the opposition parties being critical of the pace of the information release as the drama unfolded.
Premier Ranj Pillai said it was the RCMP’s call to handle the matter as they saw fit.
A video from the doorbell camera on the residence clearly shows a man of medium height with a slight build smashing in a window with the muzzle of what appears to be a shotgun.
The man appears to be caucasian. Has was dressed in black and wearing dark sunglasses, with dark shoes.
His hoodie had the brand name Carhartt running down the left sleeve.
