The RCMP have apprehended a suspect they were searching for late last week in the Carcross region.
The saga began at 7:44 p.m. last Thursday in downtown Whitehorse.
Officers were dispatched to several calls from concerned citizens about a black Dodge Ram pickup truck.
“The occupants of the vehicle were pointing a handgun and recklessly operating the motor vehicle,” police said last Friday.
“Police quickly located the vehicle outside of a local liquor off-sales business and were engaged in the arrest of the driver before he fled the scene on foot and later by conveyance.”
Officers continued to search for the suspects, finally locating them on the South Klondike Highway outside Carcross. The vehicle had been abandoned and the driver had fled again, this time on foot.
Three passengers were arrested and held pending investigation.
Police located an imitation handgun in the vehicle.
With the assistance of the Yukon RCMP Police Dog Service, a track for the suspect at large was started and proceeded throughout last Thursday night. The Star published the suspect’s photo the next day.
Eventually, as a result of the public’s assistance, police were able to identify the suspect. They confirmed he is 24-year-old Christopher Dick.
Last Saturday, officers conducted a search for Dick and located him at a residence in Judas Creek, south of Whitehorse.
“Officers contained the residence and Mr. Dick exited without incident, where he was placed under arrest,” police said Monday afternoon.
Dick was charged with obstructing a peace officer and failing to comply with a release order.
He appeared in court
Saturday and was remanded into custody. He is next scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
“The investigation into this incident is continuing,” police said.
“The RCMP would like to thank the public for their quick assistance in identifying the suspect.”

There's something about the last name that is somewhat revealing, I'm wondering if this might influence the judicial proceedings.

What happens to the people that harboured a known criminal in their house? Nothing as usual. If they would charge these people there would be nowhere for these low life’s to hide.

Dick was charged with failing to comply with a release order, which means that he was already arrested for something else previously and a judge had released him from custody. Dick then took the court so seriously that he went on this little fake gun rampage. Way to go judges, keep lettin’ em out! What a joke the courts are.
