Preserve receives research facility

Almost $2 million was committed this morning for a new research rehabilitation centre at the Yukon Wildlife Preserve.
Northern Affairs Minister Chuck Strahl made the announcement this morning while on a tour of the 284-hectare facility located along off the Takhini Hot Springs Road.
Construction of the 3,400-square-foot centre is expected to begin shortly after ground conditions allow, Krista Prochazka, the preserve's executive director, said in an interview early this afternoon.
Prochazka said the design has already been completed by Kobayashi & Zedda Architects Ltd. of Whitehorse.
Over the next month, tenders will be issued for the different components of construction, she said.
The project is being broken down into smaller components to maximize opportunities for Yukon contractors, as opposed to searching for larger general contractor to handle the
entire project, she explained.
The deadline for completion is March 31, 2011.
Ottawa is committing $1.93 million to the project through its Economic Action Plan and the Yukon government is contributing $45,312.
The Yukon Wildlife Preserve is publicly owned, and is supported by taxpayers through a $600,000-plus annual contribution.

All of this money should of went to Al Gores pocket, a more environmental friendly way of wasting money for bogus myths.

Boy, what a scam. Yukon and Federal Gov are sure getting hosed on this one. Just to fund a hi-end tourist stop, who overcharge just to ride around on their property for about a 30 min mini bus ride as they glare at you every minute you are on their property as if you are going to take something off their property or hunt one of the animals? The boys 'at the top' reap all the benefits, while the staff and subsidzed summer students work for min pay to show people around. I wonder who will get the kickback from this one? Humm?
