A man robbed Goody’s Gas Bar in Porter Creek on Sunday night while brandishing an unlit plumber’s blow torch.
At about 10:10 p.m., the man entered the store, threatened the employee and demanded cash.
He fled on foot with $490 from the till and headed toward Centennial Street North.
Whitehorse RCMP set up a containment perimeter and Police Dog Services conducted a ground search of the area, police said this morning.
The suspect was not located.
He is described as 5’5” tall and possibly of First Nations ancestry. He was wearing a dark hoodie and hat with a Monster energy drink logo on the front.
A female accomplice remained outside the store as a lookout as the robbery occurred, police said. She was wearing a gray hoodie with white lettering on the front.
The store clerk did not sustain any injuries during the incident.
Police obtained video surveillance from the incident, and were expected to release a photo of the suspect later today.
They are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.
Those with any information are asked to contact police at 667-5555.

I see those Alberta rough necks are getting pretty desperate to pay off their overpriced diesel trucks.

Hmm..."He is described as 5’5” tall and possibly of First Nations ancestry."
A perhaps better plan to say...the public's help is required to help apprehend this suspect, put the perpetrator before the courts. Then once ethnicity can be demonstrably confirmed, if the citizen before the courts is of non first nations ancestor then as per the criminal code of Canada via the courts will send a strong message that crime in our community will not be tolerated for those of non first nations ancestry.
An unlit blowtorch?
Really? Wow!
So by law, a reasonable level of response to match that is an unlit flame thrower so as to "not" use excessive force?
Do that in USA and you have the coroner taking photos of a dead guy with a unlit "plumbers blow torch" in his dead hands.
Stay tuned for more cut and paste PC court reporting/regurgitating, if with the public's help the alleged perp is caught and put into the "turnstiles".
Oh yeah...(key word)----> not "so says Josey"...but rather public record, clearly illustrated day after day since 1982.
good luck M...

Almost a 100% chance that the stolen $490 was in the hands of a crack dealer within minutes of the robbery.
In Whitehorse, quicker than waiting in line at the liquor store, one can get their hands on crack cocaine, just like that. Same with other hard drugs and stolen / scammed dangerous prescription drugs.
Meanwhile we're chasing down skateboarders for enjoying a bowlful of burning hemp or environment ministers for having a cold one while sitting on an ATV.
What we are doing now isn't working. Time to look at decriminalizing soft drugs, applying smart harm reduction planning for those addicted and then throwing the full weight of the justice system and police forces against the manufactures, suppliers and enablers that are putting crack and other hard drugs on our streets. By enablers I mean those in suits and ties that are funding and profiting the most from it.

Please post the security camera picture, should shut up dcr. I doubt the reference to First Nations would have been made , in the paper, if there was no proof. Like maybe the person robbed made a statement!

I would have sprayed the idiot with the fire extinguisher lol!
And wtf are you talking about "dcr" ...lol racist? It was the store clerks eye witness view! I'm guessing if the guy was green in color the employee would have said "hey the guy was green!" Only racist remark made in this whole situation was your idiotic statement !! And really "go get robbed again" grow up you tool!
