Whitehorse RCMP are seeking public assistance in their investigation of an armed robbery early Friday morning at the Tags Food and Gas Store on Fourth Avenue.

Sgt. John Sutherland said today police are looking for any additional information from anyone who may have witnessed the robbery, or anything in the area of Quartz Road and Waterfront Place, where the blue mini-van used in the escape was recovered a short while later.

Police are reporting that a lone male entered the store at approximately 7 a.m., demanded money, then fled with the cash register in hand. He jumped into the mini-van and drove away.

'There is an indication that a weapon was seen,' Sutherland said, adding the weapon is believed to be a handgun.

The suspect is estimated at six feet tall, with a slender build, and described as wearing a black hoodie, with a white and gray camouflaged mask or bandanna at the time of the robbery.

It has been confirmed that the mini-van had been stolen earlier that day.

The amount of money stolen is not being disclosed, nor will Sutherland say whether the suspect was captured on a security video tape.
