Whitehorse RCMP were kept busy on New Year's Eve, responding to more than 90 calls and making 16 arrests.

They were so busy, there wasn't the manpower to carry out the road checks the force had been doing throughout December.

"I don't think they had the resources," RCMP spokesman Cpl. Jag Soin said today of why the familiar check stops weren't on.

The police were checking up on some people, though.

During the evening, Soin said, the force was doing regular curfew checks on people who are under court orders to be in their homes after a certain hour.

Several arrests were made based on those housecalls.

At least one man facing a breach of probation charge will appear in court today.

Most of the incidents police were called to involved alcohol, Soin said.

"It was a fair bit busier than past years," Soin said, but added there were no extraordinary incidents.
