CRIME SPREE INVESTIGATED – The front door of the Java Connection is seen Wednesday morning. The business was one of the victims of this week’s spate of break-and-enters in the downtown area.
Whitehorse RCMP are investigating at least six break-and-enters that took place in the overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
Whitehorse RCMP are investigating at least six break-and-enters that took place in the overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
Starting at approximately 10 p.m. Tuesday, police began receiving calls about break and enters at businesses in the downtown area.
“Multiple businesses had glass doors or windows smashed and items or cash taken from inside,” police said Wednesday afternoon.
“One person, believed to have been acting alone, has been arrested.”
The suspect appeared in court on Wednesday.
Police are continuing their investigations and are looking to the public for assistance with obtaining surveillance video or witness statements.
Investigators believed that more break-and-enters may be reported as owners and staff attended their businesses to open throughout Wednesday.
Anyone who finds that a break and enter and/or theft has taken place at their business or home should call police before going inside, as offices and forensic identification specialists often attend to collect evidence from the crime scenes.
“Contacting police to attend right away allows us to collect evidence quickly and efficiently,” said Operations NCO Sgt. Jolene Nason.
“We are looking for lots of different types of evidence that can connect the scene to a suspect, including DNA, fingerprints and shoe impressions. When a scene is walked through prior to our attendance, it can hinder our investigation.”
Anyone with information about these break and enters is encouraged to reach out to police at 667-5555 or, to remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers via phone at 667-6715 or at http://www.crimestoppersyukon.ca

I have been broken into and cleaned out - a large moving van probably coming from Vancouver. I do not have any of my items back.

I know something that any "perp" can forfeit... Their Freedom would be a good start.

Arrested and quickly released for some frivolous excuse by Yukon's "Catch & Release" justice business. If the perp has nothing of value to be forfeited to the state, then there's no reason to punish them for their crimes.

A few years back a large item was stolen from my back yard in Porter Creek, I didn’t figure I’d ever see it again but filed a police report anyways just for the record. Several weeks later I was surprised to just randomly spot it several streets over behind another neighbourhood house as I drove past. I checked and sure enough it was mine so I phoned the RCMP to report that I’d found the stolen item I had earlier reported. I waited a full day for them to do something or contact me and they never did show up. I finally just gave up on them and took it upon myself to go get my stuff back, the useless police never did show up or contact me or the person who stole it to my knowledge.
20 years ago my parents country home was broken into in the Jakes corner area and they were cleaned out. The police couldn’t even be bothered to attend. I guess I don’t have to make it any more clear what my opinion of the RCMP is do I?

You mean you would actually attend? I know of an ATV that was stolen in Dec. Police were reluctant to attend. Private investigation led to the discovery of it at a residence. Police declined to lay charges.

In a world without consequence policing just becomes nonsense.
