A 48-year-old California man has been charged with careless driving after a collision Monday on the Klondike Highway.
RCMP were called to the crash at 1:23 p.m.
There, officers determined a pickup truck travelling south on the highway had been forced off the road by an oncoming vehicle with a trailer, which had been trying to pass a motorhome.
When the driver of the pickup realized the trailer wouldn't be able to pass the motorhome in time, they pulled over to the road's shoulder to let the vehicle pass.
'The vehicle managed to pass the motorhome, but its trailer fishtailed and collided with the pickup truck,' RCMP said in a statement today. 'The pickup truck was forced down a bank and into a ditch.'
The driver and two passengers in the pickup were unharmed, while the driver of the other vehicle kept driving.
RCMP officers from the Carmacks and Pelly Crossing detachments found the vehicle with the trailer and issued the driver a ticket.
'Police would like to remind motorists to take the necessary precautions to keep themselves and their passengers safe by wearing seat belts, obeying speed limits and giving themselves ample time to reach their destination,' RCMP said.
'Police also encourage drivers to pull over when their attention is required elsewhere (using cell phones or being fatigued) and to adjust their driving according to their vehicle size when pulling trailers/vehicles behind them.'
