The RCMP have arrested one of two suspects linked to a series of armed robberies and a break and enter last Saturday morning in Whitehorse.

Timothy McKay, 21, was arrested Sunday evening in Inuvik, N.W.T., police said Monday. He is being held in custody by the Inuvik RCMP.

Corey Robert Cardinal, 32, remains at large and is believed to be in Inuvik as well.

McKay and Cardinal are charged with two counts of armed robbery, and one count of break, enter and theft from three Whitehorse businesses.

McKay is also charged with one count of uttering threats, possessing a weapon, five counts of breaching a probation order and three counts of breaching a recognizance.

Cardinal is also charged with six counts of breaching a probation order.

“We continue to appeal to the public for any information that might aid in the apprehension of Corey Cardinal,” police said.

He is described as  being five feet, 10 inches tall, of medium build, and wearing a grey sweater at the time of the offences – details of which police did not release. The temperature was near -40 degrees at the time.

A black 2001 Acura MDX vehicle, which was stolen from downtown Whitehorse during Saturday’s crimes, was recovered abandoned and rolled over, 15 km south of Stewart Crossing.

“If you see Corey Cardinal, please do not approach, and call Whitehorse RCMP at 867-667-5555 immediately,” police said.
