Fireweed Helicopters rescued two people aboard a privately-owned Cessna 170 aircraft that crashed on the north side of the Yukon River Wednesday afternoon near Dawson City.

Whitehorse resident Jim Fink, the aircraft's pilot, and the passenger were treated for minor injuries at a nearby health centre and released, Sgt. Dan Gaudet of the RCMP Dawson City detachment said today.

The identity of the passenger is unknown.

Fink has been a pilot since 1979.

The RCMP received a call at 4 p.m. Wednesday from the medical clinic alerting them to the crash.

'The matter is being referred to Transport Canada for further investigation,' said Gaudet.

A resident from Dawson City said today the aircraft was flying across the river to deliver goods since the ferry has been shut down for the winter.

Dawson City Mayor John Steins was not aware of the crash when contacted by the Star.
