Pedestrian and cyclist traffic isn’t possible on Mountainview Drive between Range Road and Tlingit Street, effective today.

The City of Whitehorse’s contractor is continuing work on the Takhini sanitary trunk main, with excavation occurring along the shoulder of Mountainview Drive.

“A closure is required to reduce the risks to active transportation users,” the city said Thursday.

“Active transportation will be detoured onto Range Road until mid-August, depending on construction progress.”

Pedestrian access to the route 201 bus stop at Range Road and Mountainview Drive will remain in place.

“The City thanks you for your patience and consideration during this construction period,” the city said.

For more information, members of the public can contact the city’s Engineering Services staff at 668-8305.

It took COW this long to see the safety hazard? I saw a few near misses with bikers on that hill in the last week or so.

Why are the cyclist and pedestrians being banned? Send the cars with all their horse power down Range RD and let the pedestrians, cyclists and buses use 2 Mile Hill. As usual the COW puts the needs of autos first and everyone else can suffer!
